Family Fit Zone

All families are invited. Come check out one of our newest fitness programs. Have you wished the J had an option to workout as a family, now we do and it's the Family Fit Zone.

Sundays @10am Gym A

Family life is a habit-based endeavor. The world spins so fast and only
engrained habits last. In order to set habits like health, effort and playful hobbies, families need a way to slow the spinning globe and enjoy each other’s athleticism and fitness. In Fit Family, these habits can be established in an environment that is one part playground and one part workout, based as much in games and play as exercises and skills The idea is to show the whole family that fitness is not a boring, just-get-through-it activity. Rather, it will become a -fun-for-the-whole-family, lifetime hobby.

Please RSVP if you are intersted. Contact the Fitness Director Nick Altringer for more information. Phone (952) 381-3406 Email: naltringer@sabesjcc.org

Monthly: $20/Adult and $12/Youth(Youth under 5 may find this class difficult to keep tuned in)

September Workout of the Month: 500 Meter Row

We have brought it back for another go round. One of the most popular workout of the months to date. Objective is to row 500 meters as efficiently as possible. Why? The row is a great total body low-impact workout. This distance is a sprint so it challenges your cardiovascular, power output, and efficiency. You can combine series of 500 meters with rest periods to perform an interval workout. Checkout the Fitness Pulse in the fitness center to see times for last year or to see current postings and to post your own times.

Just yesterday I was talking to a member who gave the 500 meter row a try last year. I peaked at their current time posted and they had shaved over 13 seconds off that time. For this individual that was at least a 10% decrease in time. What does this tell us? The individual has improved their fitness from 9 months ago. After leaving the conversation with the member I went back to compare performances and many have improved their times and for that I congratulate you all and wish you luck throughout the rest of the month. For you newbies out their don't be afraid, give it a try.

August Workout of the Month: One Mile Walk/Run

This months workout is a great assessment tool to use periodically throughout the year to see if we have made progress to achieving our goals. It's as easy as timing yourself walk/run the 14 laps on the indoor track or at 2% incline on the treadmill for 1 mile. Write down your results and put it in your workout folder. You could also post your results on the fitness board to see how you compare to other JCC participants.
